Power of Positive Thinking

06/20/2008 - 06/22/2008

Weekend Retrea
t

June 20-22, Friday 6:00 pm to Sunday 4:00 pm

"Thoughts and emotions play a very crucial role in affecting how we perform at home, at work, and in all aspects of our daily lives."

The energy of the human mind is thought. Thought is said to be one of the greatest, but least understood, energy resources of the universe. When we learn to understand and harness the energy of the mind, we are able to master our lives and produce those thoughts that give the most happiness and fulfillment. The mind has the power to create whatever it focuses on. Even if you think you are already fairly positive in life, you can benefit tremendously by looking at how much we do to ourselves unconsciously. Life will never be without its challenges. Knowing how to create a positive attitude can change a problem into an opportunity, making life seem less perilous and more enjoyable.

Through discussion, meditation and reflection, creative activity and exercises, this weekend retreat will take you on a journey to explore the power and influence of thought and the impact of positive attitudes. It will also look at the underlying spiritual principles that help maintain positivity in your daily life.

COURSE STRUCTURE

Getting to Know My Mind: What is the mind? How can we change our patterns of thinking? This first session will help us develop a deeper understanding of the mind and will also include exercises in developing positive thought.

Taking Control of Life's Experiences: How can we become free of the many things that influence us at home and at work? How do we maintain our self-respect? This session explores the benefits that clear, accurate thinking can bring to one's personal life.

Developing Positive Self-awareness:
What is the energy that drives our thinking? To what extent is it an internal or external process? And what is my real identity?

Creating my own Reality: Freedom is the basic right of every individual, but freedom of choice automatically implies personal responsibility for one's actions. To keep a balance we need to recognize our rights as well as our duties and understand the consequences of our actions.

Facilitators: Elizabeth Padilla and Dennis Hiebert

Elizabeth Padilla has been teaching meditation for 23 years. For the past 16 years she has facilitated many seminars and workshops, such as Self Managing Leadership, Circle of Wise Women, Stress Management, and value based programs. Elizabeth is a very talented singer and a theater artist, having performed with Beach Blanket Babylon and the American Conservatory Theater. She is now fulfilling her life's dream by reaching the heart and spirit through her songs and work.

Dennis Hiebert has been a meditator for 34 years and has studied, practiced and taught Raja Yoga Meditation with the Brahma Kumaris for 22 years. Dennis has been interviewed on cable television in Los Angeles on the topic of the effects of our thoughts. He is the past President of the Activity Directors Organization of San Gabriel Valley and an active member of the Southern California Association of Activity Professionals.

The workshop will also include information about LVE’s theoretical model, the breadth of the program internationally, and time for reflection, sharing, role playing, walks and play.

RESULTS: The most frequent themes noted by educators implementing Living Values Education are positive changes in teacher-student relationships and in student-student relationships both inside and outside the classroom. Educators note an increase in respect, caring, cooperation, motivation, and the ability to solve peer conflicts on the part of the students. Aggressive behaviors decline as positive social skills and respect increase. LVEP helps educators create safe, caring, values-based atmospheres for quality learning.
